One Flower Wednesday

Only lonely little flower bloomed this week and it is all my fault. I have too many hand projects, I'm going to have finish some of them up. One of the hand projects is a Christmas gift and I have frogged it entirely too many times. Does that mean there will be extra love in the project? I didn't think so. Any way on to the little flower, I think I need two more but I'm thinking of pulling the batik flowers out and replacing them as my next garden will be all batiks.
I will be using the hex template more.

Fussy Cut Hexes

Check out the template that SewGirly made to fussy cut her hexes. How neat is that? Yes, I made me one.

Since I was out of card stock I used freezer paper.

Against drunk driving

Attention Bloggers
The Department of Transportation has asked American bloggers to spotlight the critical importance of staying sober behind the wheel this Independence Day. My cousin and her unborn child was killed by a drunk driver. I would like to mention that Patricia was in labor and being driven to the hospital when this horrible accident happened. There is no reason to drink and drive. Please remember while you are partying a family is driving to see family.

Crazy Quilt Friday

I'm not happy with this block at all. I'm thinking about taking the dark brown off and covering it with white lace to kinda tone it down.

Don't forget to visit the LittleSoupFamily for the address label giveaway.

Firetrucks

The boys needed shirts with firetrucks on them. This design were a booger to do because of the tiny pieces of fabric to applique'.
Nikolas was being silly, turning every time I got in front of him to take his picture. So while the boy is side ways the picture is correct. lol I wanted you to experience what I deal with and I love every minute of it.

I told Greg I wanted to take a picture of him wearing his firetruck shirt and he put his hands over the truck. So Jon just held his hands. lol

Frogs for Greg

I know I said I was not going to start any new quilts until I got some WIPs finished. But.......this fabric kept calling my name.

I originally purchased the fabric for a quilt as you go reversible quilt and it was purchased in June 2008. That method is not for me. Since you can't waste perfectly good fabric what was I to do and it was cut. Sew I sewed the strips together and then added the triangles. The following picture is not good but I think you get the idea.
Then I have to assume this is the layout that Greg liked since he kept pointing to this one.

I'm thinking a contrasting sashing between the diamonds. Maybe more frogs on each side for width?
First diamond, it hasn't been squared and I haven't added the sashing.
And this is the final layout. I still need to square it up.
It's not a large quilt (39" x 55") but just the right size for a small person to cover up with or drag around. I think the yellow backing will be perfect. I can't wait to show you the quilting.

Happy quilting!

Tease

Starting Friday morning I had three days of nothing to do but sew. WOOHOO!! I was so excited and since I wanted to accomplish lots I made a list. No, you can not see my list but I will show you pictures. :D

I'm sure you know what I did with these and this is what I started with Friday morning.

Then I moved on to this fabric. What? You think it doesn't match. Well, it will when the quilt is finished. I used some freezer paper and a little bit of fusible.

I really need to take the tan fabric out of there as I might use it for something else but I might not. You know what I did with these fabrics.

Yes, I worked with this quilt top. You will see more of this quilt on Monday. A certain little someone comes for a visit and goes straight for the quilt top. I will have to hide it better once I get it pin basted.

Friday Accomplished List
2 shirts embroidered for the 2 older boys
2 cute croc blocks
started on an applique' block
3 patterns traced for applique'

Crazy Quilt Friday

I guess I was feeling lavender this week. I have no idea if I used the trim correctly. I do intend to add buttons and things once the quilt is quilted.
I laid it on the batting to making the colors show better.

Hexagon layout

I tried to find a layout that I liked and I just couldn't.
Hated this one. I could tell there was going to be way more green than I wanted.
Nope I didn't like that one either.
I certainly didn't like that one.

And my decision is this one. Betsy gave me the background fabric and I even made some little flowers but I was just never happy with the flowers. I think my hex flowers look very nice on it.
I still need more flowers and I'm already planning another flower quilt. Is there a way to get the pictures out of your head and onto your computer?

One Flower Wednesday

Five more flowers bloomed this week in my garden, giving me a total of 22 flowers. I love making these flowers but eventually I will have switch to another shape or maybe not.
My head is whirling with ideas of flowers.

New bibs

When Lacy was a baby bibs were not so cute. They were merely usable, but not today.
Mr. Aiden John-Davis modeling the first bib I made him. When he steps out on the town, he will be styling! Below are three more I made. Poor little guy is drooling like crazy, he is trying so hard to get another tooth. Lacy thinks wants enough bibs for 5 a day.

Squeal

While Barb was in TX she told me to remind her that she had some fabric she would send me to use in my crazy quilt. Well, I forgot but Barb didn't. There was a package in my mailbox Friday. If I had been able to run I would have run to my apt.
Yummy yummy yummy! All feel silky but the tan piece which feels like cotton. When you visit Barb's blog you will notice it is the same fabric her little octopus is made from. Squeal!!!! Of course, Grabby McGrab aka my daughter tried to claim the tan piece for Aiden. Now granted I love the little guy but he isn't getting my fabric.

Thanks so much, Barb!

Shopping

Lacy and I took off this morning to go shopping for certain items. Trim for the crazy quilt blocks, backing for Greg's quilt and minkee for the back of bibs. This is what I came home with.
Isn't that pitiful?? One little piece of trim. I was whining on the way home and Jon said "Could you use strands of lace, beads and pearls in the bridal section?" Now why didn't he show me that but it sounds perfect.

The yellow is the backing for Greg's quilt, brown minkee for backing on the bibs and red, white & blue for bibs.

What? You didn't know I had made Greg a quilt? That's because I didn't want to show it until I found the backing. I can't wait to get started quilting it.

OK, I'm off to play with my tiny bit of lace.

Aiden John-Davis

Aiden is growing like a little weed. At his 4 month checkup he was 26 1/2" long and weighed 16 lbs. I think he is trying to catch with Greg who is a little shorty.
He was sure checking out his shoes. lol
Here he is with his best friend. Can you see his little eye is red and puffy? Aiden and the puppy had a fight, I think the puppy got the best of him.
This is one of my favorite pictures of him. He has the brightest blue eyes. Note the drool. Tooth number 1 is in.

Have a great day!

One Flower Wednesday

Lookie what I got to help my garden grow. 150 of those little hexes and I love them everyone. I will be buying more shapes and sizes from Paper Pieces.
Three little flowers bloomed brightly in my garden this week.

This is the layout I thought I wanted, I'm in the process of taking it apart. I don't want that much green.

Thread

See this thread?

Well, last week I decorated one of my crazy quilt blocks using this thread. The thread broke a bazillion times. I just thought I had the tension set wrong. I tried to use the thread when I embroidered on a bath towel and once again the thread broke a bazillion times. Had to use my favorite cuss word a bazillion times but it wasn't my fault.

Where is that thread now?

In the trash!
Edit: The name of this thread is Hilo Seda. I have about 10 more spools of this thread and they are fine. I think they particular spool was bad. The thread is manufactored in England, if I am remembering correctly.

How Cindy embroiders on a towel

I had several people ask me how I did my towels. I hope I haven't left out any steps. None of these ideas are original. I read them somewhere else and I took worked for me and put it to use.
I didn't put thread, scissors, etc because I knew you knew you would have to have those items.

Hoop the sticky stabilizer.
Do Not Hoop the Towel. I can not stress to you enough not to hoop the towel.

Fold towel in half

Center towel on hoop Press towel to stabilizer. Open towel and re-press to stabilizer.

At this point I take my finger and run around the hoop. I want to make sure every thing is stuck real good.

Tear off a piece of Press & Seal and place on top of towel.

You will be stitching on top of the Press & Seal. Stitch your design

All finished stitching the design?

You will need a few more supplies for this next step.
tweezers, patience, favorite cuss word and very good lighting.
I remove the stabilizer from the back first. Be careful not to catch the loops. Sometimes it is hard to see the Press & Seal and that is where you use your favorite cuss word. Mine is d***.

When you have removed all the stabilizer and the Press & Seal, then you are done.
If anyone finds a better way to remove the stabilizer and Press & Seal off, please share with me.

Happy stitching!

Small Talk Six on Saturday

Over at momdot she has Small Talk Six on Saturday. Here is the list of topics for the year. I tried grabbing her button but I can't get any of them to work. You don't have to use pictures but I thought it would be more interesting. This week is 6 of my favorite cold beverages.
