One Flower Wednesday

I'm having a blast making flowers, I hope it last. I now enough squares cut to make 17 flowers. I know I know! Monday night I had finished two flowers.
This was my first flower.
and this is the second flower.

Then Tuesday I made the flower. So far this is my favorite flower.

I cut too many squares so some of my flowers will be repeats but that doesn't bother me.

I need some info. How do you store your flowers? I know how many hexes I need to make the quit but how do I figure out how much I need for the background. I thought about buying 1 yard to start with.

Happy stitching!

fabulous flowers Cindy. You probably could email Karen about yardage. I just wing it.

Your flowers are very nice. Can you maybe store them in a plastic container with a lid? (I'm not sure of the size of the flower, but dollar stores now have so many plastic, lidded containers...so maybe you can find one in an appropriate size...otherwise maybe a box with a lid...shoe box...shirt box, etc.)

Cindy...looking good, girlfriend!
How about storing them in an unused Pizza box. Just ask the Pizza guy to give you one!!!

Hi, Cindy! I am new, too! Great flowers, and great questions. I will have to remember to stop back and review the answers you get.

Beautiful Cindy! So nice and bright! My garden has many repeats in fabric too and that's okay. I can always make another flower garden with no repeats! LOL. I'm storing my finished flowers in a pretty little box, but the box is almost full now, so I will start filling another one. As for background yardage, that is hard to say. I'm guessing you need to calculate the number of hexagons needed to go around each flower and then figure how many inches of fabric you need to cut ONE hexagon and then times that by how many hexagons needed and than you can figure how many yards. Hope that helps!

Lovely flowers Cindy. I started a gfg about ten years ago and I'm still sewing on it. I work on it when I'm traveling in our RV or sometimes while watching TV. I call it my forever project. My blocks are all in reds also with cream center blocks. I bought one yard each of 9 different red fabrics and 1-1/2 yards of the center fabric, just to be safe. I'm not making it the traditional way, instead I'm sewing mine in rows. I will have a fair amount of fabric left over, so depending on the size you want it could vary. You may need more fabric if you add the diamonds around each block to separate them. My hexes are 1-3/4" finished hexes and when put together the block size is 8-3/4". I'm making a queen comforter size. I have finished making almost 100 blocks and have six rows sewn together. Just writing this is getting my enthusiasm up about working on it. From the photo your hexes look a little larger than mine, but it's hard to tell. I hope this helps, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help if I can. Happy Stitching!!

I love your flowers, Cindy! Truly love the sunny centres...
It is so nice to meet you!
I will show you my sweet hatbox where i store my finished flowers next week. I have just been making them and have been waiting for inspiration as to how I will join them, I have no idea about yardage yet, or if I will use a variety of green FQ's
:)

What super flowers. I just get a box that's been cut off to about 3 or 4 inches from the bottom when I go to the store. I keep my quilt bits in there. When finished, I put the box in the recycling.

I love your flowers -- particularly that last one -- so cheerful and bright! I store my finished flowers in a decorative box.
